Join the observatory
Open positions
The Jocelyn Bell Observatory in Toulouse is operated by UPS in Space, and it is built by the people who commit to it. There is no prerequisite to join a team: what has to be learned is learned on site, and the association trains people on the equipment it entrusts to them.
Active member
Two teams welcome members, with no entry condition.
What the role asks: returning equipment on time and reporting damage, keeping your own record up to date, and taking the training the equipment requires, solar safety in particular.
Head of the technical team
Leading the team that makes a night of observing possible, and answering for your own scope.
What the role opens: the observatory’s technical access, the equipment and instruments, and remote control of the mount, the dome and the power supply.
What the role asks: keeping the documentation of your scope up to date, running the measurement benches before anything goes live, answering the alerts of your scope, and giving notice before leaving.
The role sits on the division’s management, which brings together the head of division and the team leads.
Deputy director
Supporting the head of the observatory division, and standing in for them.
What the role asks: holding your domain, withdrawing rights that no longer have a purpose, and taking part in the monthly review for what concerns you.
